Dark City

DARK CITY (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
Music by Trevor Jones

New from Renovatio Records: the score for Alex Proyas' 1998 sci-fi thriller Dark City, composed by Trevor Jones. The film has an all-star ensemble cast that includes Rufus Sewell, Keifer Sutherland, Jennifer Connelly and William Hurt in the main roles, and has a dark and twisted plot surrounding the concept of dreams versus the awful truth, with a remarkable visual style and plenty of film noir elements. At the time of the release, the film received critical acclaim but was quickly cast aside and completely forgotten. The same could be said about Trevor Jones' splendid score, which counts on several themes and motifs, along with an intricate instrumentation that includes a robust orchestra over accompanying synthesizers.

The score was released in 1998 by TVT Soundtrax in an album compilation that included as many songs as music by Jones, resulting in a soundtrack that would not satisfy the composer's avid listeners. As expected, many expanded or complete bootlegs compilations surfaced years later. Renovatio Records brings you a new edition of this score, with a far better arrangement of tracks, previously unreleased material and Anita Kelsey's delightful take on "Sway", which we couldn't leave out! Enjoy!

Dante's Peak

DANTE'S PEAK (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
Music by John Frizzell
Theme by James Newton Howard

Renovatio Records offers you the possibility of re-visiting Dante's Peak! Starring Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton, this 1997 action film depicted (quite realistically) the devastating force of an erupting volcano on a small town set right next to it. Besides providing a view into the adventures of vulcanologist Harry Dalton (Brosnan) and Town Mayor Rachel Wando (Hamilton), who are forced to struggle for their lives against everything from crumbling houses to burning lava to acid lakes to explosive pyroclastic clouds, the film counts on the magnificent and bombastic score composed by John Frizzell. Originally, James Newton Howard was attached to the project and even got to compose a number of tracks (the number of which still remains a mistery), but had to depart due to scheduling conflicts. Hence, he was replaced by Frizzell, who provided a score full of action and emotion, with a powerful orchestra that will burn your ears!

The score was commercially released in 1997 by Varèse Sarabande in the form of an incredibly short album that left almost all of the best cues out. Now, Renovatio Records offers you a re-arrangement of this underrated score, with exclusive previously unreleased content and so much non-stop action material that you will find yourself sweating once you are done listening to it! As if that were not enough, the score contains two primary themes that stand among the best in the film genre of natural disasters. Have a pleasant listening experience re-discovering this score, which certainly will always be a standout in Frizzell's career!

Tracklist:
1. Main Titles (5:25)
2. Incident At Twonset Hot Spring (2:08)
3. Harry Checks The Mountain (1:51)
4. On The Porch (2:37)
5. Helicopter Fight (1:49)
6. The Crater (5:22)
7. Evacuation Begins (4:16)
8. Panic At Dante's Peak (4:15)
9. Helicopter Crash (3:37)
10. Escaping The Burning House (3:20)
11. Team Leaves (2:52)
12. Stuck In The Lava (2:30)
13. Pyroclastic Cloud (3:31)
14. The Rescue (4:58)

Species II

SPECIES II (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
Music by Edward Shearmur

Renovatio Records presents its first release: Species II by English composer Edward Shearmur. The film is the first sequel (out of three) to the original 1995 film, starring Natasha Henstridge, and has her returning, along with actors Michael Madsen and Marg Helgenberger reprising their respective roles. Shearmur was in charge of composing the score after a long fellow partnership with director Peter Medak.

The score received a rather short official soundtrack release back in 1998 by TVT Soundtrack, incorporating two misplaced songs by B.B. King and Apollo Four Forty (yeah, you read that right...). Here we present you with Renotavio Records's own treatment of the score, with no songs whatsoever and exclusive unreleased material, such as the action-packed "Eve Escapes" and complete versions of "On The Surface", "Starting A New Family" and "In The Barn". The score, in general, is quite dark in atmosphere and heavily influenced by electronic synthesizers but with a powerful orchestra that will burst through your ears when least expected. The music also touches the emotional human side of Eve (Henstridge's character) with a beautiful and tender piano theme that cannot be missed.

Tracklist:
1. The Red Planet (3:17)
2. On The Surface (3:57)
3. Patrick (1:51)
4. Mating Season Begins (3:02)
5. First Blood (3:05)
6. Starting A New Family (2:27)
7. Pursuit (4:40)
8. The Cocoons (1:15)
9. Eve Escapes (3:21)
10. In The Barn (7:19)
11. Eve (4:30)

Total running time: 38:44
